Minimally Invasive Foot Surgery

Minimally invasive surgical techniques have become valuable in podiatric surgery, offering effective solutions for common foot and ankle conditions with less trauma than traditional methods. These procedures involve small incisions, often under five millimeters, and specialized instruments to address issues like bunions, hammertoes, and bone spurs. By minimizing soft tissue disruption, minimally invasive surgery reduces postoperative pain, swelling, and the need for extensive recovery time, allowing patients to return to daily activities sooner. These techniques are particularly beneficial for patients with underlying health conditions who may not be ideal candidates for open surgery. Using real-time imaging, podiatrists can accurately correct deformities and other structural issues with high precision. Additionally, the reduced risk of infection and scarring makes these procedures attractive for both patients and practitioners. If you are facing the possibility of foot surgery, it is suggested that you consult a podiatrist to see if you are a candidate for this type of surgery.

Foot surgery is sometimes necessary to treat a foot ailment. To learn more, contact Imaze Marian Davis, DPM of Marian Davis, DPM, PA. Our doctors will assist you with all of your foot and ankle needs.

When Is Surgery Necessary?

Foot and ankle surgery is generally reserved for cases in which less invasive, conservative procedures have failed to alleviate the problem. Some of the cases in which surgery may be necessary include:

  • Removing foot deformities like bunions and bone spurs
  • Severe arthritis that has caused bone issues
  • Cosmetic reconstruction

What Types of Surgery Are There?

The type of surgery you receive will depend on the nature of the problem you have. Some of the possible surgeries include:

  • Bunionectomy for painful bunions
  • Surgical fusion for realignment of bones
  • Neuropathy decompression surgery to treat nerve damage

Benefits of Surgery

Although surgery is usually a last resort, it can provide more complete pain relief compared to non-surgical methods and may allow you to finally resume full activity.

Surgical techniques have also become increasingly sophisticated. Techniques like endoscopic surgery allow for smaller incisions and faster recovery times.

Diabetic Neuropathy Is a Serious Complication

Diabetes can lead to several serious foot complications, with neuropathy being one of the most common and concerning. Diabetic neuropathy occurs when high blood sugar levels damage the nerves in the feet, leading to symptoms like numbness, tingling, or burning sensations. As nerve damage progresses, individuals may lose the ability to feel pain or temperature changes, which means injuries such as cuts, blisters, or sores may go unnoticed. This loss of sensation increases the risk of infections and ulcers, which can develop into more severe conditions if not treated promptly. Regular foot care and monitoring are essential for people with diabetes, as neuropathy can lead to serious complications, including amputations. If you have diabetes, it is strongly suggested that you visit a podiatrist for regular check-ups. The role of this foot doctor is imperative in preventing and managing diabetic foot issues.

Diabetic foot care is important in preventing foot ailments such as ulcers. If you are suffering from diabetes or have any other concerns about your feet, contact Imaze Marian Davis, DPM from Marian Davis, DPM, PA. Our doctors can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetes affects millions of people every year. The condition can damage blood vessels in many parts of the body, especially the feet. Because of this, taking care of your feet is essential if you have diabetes, and having a podiatrist help monitor your foot health is highly recommended.

The Importance of Caring for Your Feet

  • Routinely inspect your feet for bruises or sores.
  • Wear socks that fit your feet comfortably.
  • Wear comfortable shoes that provide adequate support.

Patients with diabetes should have their doctor monitor their blood levels, as blood sugar levels play such a huge role in diabetic care. Monitoring these levels on a regular basis is highly advised.

It is always best to inform your healthcare professional of any concerns you may have regarding your feet, especially for diabetic patients. Early treatment and routine foot examinations are keys to maintaining proper health, especially because severe complications can arise if proper treatment is not applied.

Personal Statement:

I am most grateful to have served ABPM as a Board of Director for over a year now. As a Podiatrist in Miami, Florida who owns and runs a private Podiatric practice, last year, I never expected to receive a call to serve our profession in this magnitude at that stage of my career. I am a wife and a mother of six beautiful girls that completely run my world along with my love for my patients that I serve each day. Honestly, it has been a great honor to serve, and I am truly humbled to have your nomination once again to continue to give back to our profession. ABPM, a board that has helped me stand firm with vase opportunities as I developed my private practice. As a podiatrist and an ABPM Diplomate, I specialize in foot and ankle trauma surgery, limb salvage, wound care, primary podiatric care, and minimal invasive surgery. With my experience thus far with the board, I further understand the challenges facing our profession and the opportunities we strive to achieve together as Podiatrist. From helping to standardize ABPM exam setting by removing barriers that ensure our exams gives each candidate a fair opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge to my joint effort with Maintenance of Certification committee members to innovate our MOC process enhancing the standard and working to align it with our allied counterparts. I most enjoy my current role in the communications committee with part of our mission to improve our public outreach to our Diplomates, non-Diplomates, Residents, and students through our bimonthly webinar series. Through these webinars we have received great feedback that allows ABPM to continue paving the way to educate and provide tools to help our current and future Diplomates be successful in their various specialties. I thank you for the nomination and I hope to continue to serve our profession with pride, honor, and innovation to help move Podiatry Forward!
